Title: “Total Productive Maintenance within the 4IR environment”

Synopsis: Many aerospace and defence organisation have embarked on ‘Lean’ or ‘six sigma’ improvement programmes to improve their processes with mixed success. In reality the most critical resource type in the majority of aerospace and defence organisations is high value capital equipment. Most organisations have some kind of planned maintenance programme but few understand how to eliminate equipment focussed losses properly, relying instead on an ‘inspect and repair’ approach alongside continual breakdown recovery. Increasingly manufacturers are being told that by investing in sensor technology and data collections systems they can detect breakdowns before they occur – often linked to adoption of 4IR. In reality with no effective process to maintain equipment condition these detections will not be effective as equipment fails unpredictably and inconsistently. Organisations that have adopted true Total Productive Maintenance approaches are able to use the structured pillar approach to eliminate defect, downtime and accident losses and provide the stable platform that will enable organisations to get the benefit of the data, sensing and predictive systems associated with 4IR. Industry Forum is one of only three consultancy organisations globally who are certified by the Japanese Institute of Plant Maintenance (JIPM) the global gurus of TPM thinking.
